It has now grown into a solid club of over 130 members. The club owns clubrooms at Bundamba, and a racing circuit on leased land at Willowbank. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 14 and it doesn't matter what sort of car you drive, our events are suitable for all types of cars. We wish to encourage racing in a controlled environment, which better prepares drivers for emergency situations, which can occur during driving on public roads.
AUTOCROSS events are held on our 1 km long decomposed granite track, which has 6 corners of varying tightness. Each vehicle is timed over one standing and one flying lap. Each driver gets a minimum of 10 laps and the driver with the lowest total time at the end of the day wins the class. The classes are based on engine capacity with A Class from 1-1600cc, B Class 1601-2000cc, C Class from 2000-3000cc and D Class 3000cc & over. Four-wheel drive cars compete in E Class and there is a Junior Class for drivers not holding a car license. Trophies are presented to the first three places in each class. Autocross events are suitable for road cars because the track is smooth and because there is no overtaking of other cars. To compete in an Autocross, each driver must be a financial member of a CAMS affiliated car club and hold at least a CAMS Level 2S license which costs $85. Entry fees for Autocross events is $55 for IWMAC members and $60 for members of other car clubs. Spectators are welcome and are not charged. Autocrosses will be held on the following dates in 2005: February 13, May 22, July 10, August 28, September 25, October 30, November 20. For more information on Autocross events, contact us on the numbers below.
RALLIES are specialised events for modified vehicles driving on closed roads (usually on forestry roads) where the cars are timed over several sections and the driver with the fastest time at the end of the event wins. The driver slides the car around each corner as fast as possible while the navigator shouts instruction about the road ahead to the driver. Rally cars must be fitted with a full roll cage, harness seat belts and a fire extinguisher. The driver and navigator must hold a CAMS rally license and must be financial member of a car club. Rallies are held all over Queensland and there are different levels of events to cater for drivers with various experience. For more information contact us on the numbers below or visit our web site for rally dates.
SHORT CIRCUIT TOURING CAR races are held on our 1 km decomposed granite track and involves up to 8 cars on the track together. The driving is fast and spectacular as drivers try to out brake and out-manoeuvre the other cars. We have classes for Junior (under 17 drivers) and classes for standard or heavily modified cars. All cars must have roll cages, safety harnesses and fire extinguishers fitted, and drivers must wear full fire-proof race suits. Choice of cars range from Corollas to Toranas and Falcons to Ladas. To compete in Short Circuit events, you must be a member of a CAMS car club and hold a CAMS Level 2S license which costs $85. Entry fees for drivers is $60 for each event, while $8 is charged for spectators. For more information on these events, please call the club president on the numbers listed below.
PRACTICE DAYS are held on the first Sunday of every month on either the Autocross or Short Circuit Tracks. All drivers must be a member of a CAMS affiliated car club and must hold a minimum Level 2S CAMS license (which cost $85). Day licenses are available for $40. Cars are released onto the track with a gap between them and no overtaking is permitted. The track is smooth and since the cars don't get close enough to hit each other, Practice days are suitable for drivers with little dirt track experience, who want to learn better car control, or for experienced drivers who want to practice and test their cars. For more information on practice days, contact us on the numbers below. Practice days in 2005 will be held on the following Sunday: May 1, June 5, July 3, August 7, September 4, & November 6. For more information on these events, please call the club president on the number listed below.
